The Big Idea Creative Thinking Programme Competition Winners 15/5/2023
Students Aideen O’Keefe, Abhainn Cody, Roisin Joyce and Clodagh Farrell of Team Community Cara from Borris Vocational School in Carlow, who were the overall winners of the national creative thinking programme The Big Idea this week. The 14-week programme delivered across 22 counties this year, with the help of over 350 industry mentors to help elevate the national skill base and democratise the world’s most in-demand skill – creative thinking. The Borris team was selected by judges based on the recognition and celebration of their journey through the creative Big Idea process, in addition to their innovative and inspiring ideas which have potential for real social impact.

What is The B!G Idea?

The B!G Idea is a multi-award-winning program that empowers Transition Year (TY) students with essential creative thinking skills. It connects education with industry, allowing students to learn directly from professionals across various sectors. Best of all, it’s completely free for both students and teachers!

Who Can Participate?

Teachers of Transition Year and Leaving Cert Applied students, as well as Youthreach and Community Training Centre facilitators, can register their classes for this unique program. The B!G Idea complements Ireland’s education system by offering diverse and creative learning experiences tailored to each student’s way of thinking.

Program Details

The B!G Idea features 25 workshops focused on creative thinking, covering five themes aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals: Climate Change, Mental Health, Cost of Living, AI for Humanity, and Diversity & Inclusion. Students work in teams to develop innovative solutions to these challenges.

What’s Included?

Student Packs: Each student receives a Think B!G class pack, including a LEGO pack for systems thinking, a sketchbook for brainstorming, and all necessary stationery.

Teacher Packs: Tutors receive a comprehensive teaching pack to support classroom activities.
