Introducing the ASI TY Programme

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) is excited to offer your school the opportunity to participate in Creating a Dementia Inclusive Generation, our free, award-winning TY programme. This flexible, engaging course provides students with knowledge about dementia, opportunities to develop leadership skills, and a pathway to make a real difference in their community.

Why Get Involved?

  • National Impact: Over the years, we’ve reached thousands of teenagers across Ireland, helping to reduce stigma and increase understanding of dementia.
  • Real-Life Relevance: With 1 in 3 young people knowing someone with dementia and over 64,000 people in Ireland living with dementia, this programme is more important than ever.
  • Award-Winning Recognition: Earlier this year, the programme won the Healthcare Initiative Student Programme Award at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards.

Programme Phases:
Our programme is divided into three impactful phases:

  • Phase 1: E-Learning Component
Students complete five interactive modules designed to build understanding and empathy:Each module includes:The e-learning modules are adaptable, taking just one class per module or extended with optional activities.
    1. Growing Older
    2. About the Brain
    3. A Healthy Brain
    4. What is Dementia?
    5. Perceptions of Dementia
    • Advanced Learning Options: Links to extra resources, class activities, and worksheets.
    • Knowledge Checks: Students answer 3 questions at the end of each module, needing 100% to proceed.
    • Opportunities for deeper engagement through additional materials and discussions.
  • Phase 2: Peer-to-Peer Education
Students use a specially crafted training toolkit to share their knowledge with classmates. This empowers them to become dementia ambassadors, fostering greater understanding within their school community.
  • Phase 3: Fundraising & Community Engagement
Students engage in creative and fun fundraising activities, with full support from our team. These events not only raise awareness but also directly support people living with dementia in your community.

Programme Highlights:

  • Aligned with Gaisce: As an official Gaisce Challenge Partner, students can use this programme to earn hours toward their Bronze Award through e-learning, peer education, fundraising, or volunteering.
  • Certification: Upon completion, students receive a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their efforts and contributions.
