Casement Aerodrome, November 7th, 2024 – AvCon 2024 made history as Ireland’s largest aviation career and talent convention, by uniting almost 14,000 students from Transition Year to third level, educators, and industry professionals for an unforgettable day of inspiration, innovation, and career exploration in aviation.
The event, a groundbreaking collaboration between AvCon and the Irish Air Corps, saw 6,480 attendees in person and over 7,000 additional viewers through TYHub Live Stream. AvCon cemented its place as a pioneering platform for the next generation of aviation enthusiasts.
Guided by the charismatic duo Ally Garvey and Karl Bowe, the event launched with an official opening by Chief of Staff Lt Gen Seán Clancy, accompanied by GOC Brig Gen Rory O’Connor and Minister for Transport James Lawless TD. Lt Gen Clancy heralded the event, stating:
“This Aviation Convention (AvCon) is going to be the signature career and talent convention for aviation in Ireland.”
Brig Gen Rory O’Connor added:
“AvCon provides an opportunity for all of the students to get a glimpse into what awaits them in terms of the future careers in aviation.”
Minister James Lawless praised the initiative, saying:
“The vision crafted by the dynamic, determined AvCon Team is unique and the first of its kind, certainly in Ireland. A much-needed space now brought to life by the AvCon Team and the Irish Air Corps at Casement Aerodrome, the home of Irish Military Aviation.”

The event featured a stellar lineup of speakers from Ireland and Europe, representing aviation, space, and aerospace sectors. Talks spanned two stages: the Let’s Talk Main Stage and the Speakers Hub, delivering invaluable insights into careers, innovation, and the future of the industry.
