Athena Analytics, the company behind the Athena Tracker and Athena FitnessMark, has announced the launch of ‘Athena Health & Performance Clinic’, a health and fitness workshop that is specifically designed for transition year students. The clinic officially launched at the Transition Year National Conference 2025, which took place in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
The Athena Health & Performance Clinic combines theory-based workshops with interactive practical sessions to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to take ownership of their own physical and mental wellbeing.
The Athena Health & Performance Clinic was designed by Eoin Joy, a PE teacher with experience teaching in Ireland and Australia. A PhD candidate researching adolescent health and performance-related physical fitness, Eoin is a key member of the Athena FitnessMark team. Eoin is also a Phase 1 LCPE teacher who co-authored the first LCPE textbook in Ireland, “Peak Performance”, which was published by Folens.
Speaking of the idea behind the Athena Health & Performance Clinic, Eoin said:
“Every day, young people are bombarded with floods of health and fitness information online and on social media. While some of it is accurate, much of it can be misleading, or even harmful. We created this one-day, fully immersive workshop to cut through the noise and provide students with scientifically sound theories and practical strategies that will genuinely enhance their understanding of health and fitness.
Our goal is to equip students with a toolkit of evidence-based knowledge and actionable steps that they can use to improve their physical fitness and overall health, empowering them to make informed choices that truly benefit their physical and emotional well-being.”
Founded in 2017 Athena Analytics is one of the providers of edtech to Irish secondary schools. Its flagship product, the Athena Tracker, uses machine learning technology to calculate a baseline potential grade for each student, in each subject. Athena’s products are currently used by over 400 secondary schools in Ireland, representing over 55% national coverage. In September 2022, Athena Analytics launched the Athena FitnessMark, an intelligent fitness tracking system that is specially built for students.
Clinics are delivered on-site in schools across Ireland. Schools can build their own clinic by choosing between a mixture of practical and knowledge-based sessions.
